Virtual 2020 Race for Education!

Message from the Hambright PTO:

Hello Hambright! Hope you all are doing well sheltering at home! Mrs. Gerlach and Mrs. Hanna miss you and are so sad we won’t be doing our traditional Race for Education this year. However, we are excited to inform you that we are still going to have an event in which you all can participate! We need your help though!

This year we are going to have a virtual 2020 Race for Education! On Thursday May 14th, we want you to go outside and walk or run laps around your house, your back yard, at a park or around your block for 30 minutes. Keep track of your laps! Then send a photo of yourself with a sign telling us the number of laps you completed!  Wear your Hambright Leader shirts or Penn Manor colors to show your school spirit.

Please email your photos to ptohambright@gmail.com by Wednesday, May 20th. We will put a video together with all the photos. We will then share the video so you can see other students and how many laps we ran as a whole school!

Thank you,

Jamie Gerlach and Shannon Hanna, race coordinators

Happy Friday!

Thank you for all you are doing at home to help your child.  Ms Walker and I were SO EXCITED to receive a lot more assignments from children this week.  Again this is a work in progress for all of us so we will continue to help and adapt as we move forward.  Reminder to take the photos of your assignments and send to us through email and private messenger of Class Tag.  We are keeping track of assignments coming in and providing feedback to let you know we received them.  Although we do have office hours, we are working a lot more throughout the day and are here to help you with assignments or anything you need, please reach out to me! : )

Next week we will begin moving forward with the new curriculum which will be so beneficial for your first grader to complete so they are ready for second grade.  All activities will continue to be posted on the remote Penn Manor learning site https://sites.google.com/pennmanor.net/remotelearning/home.  Again there you will find the first grade activities with the weekly checklist of assignments that the teachers across the district have prepared for you.  You will see first grade teachers have created videos to help teach your child next week.

Please also check out the specialist link as well because our art, library, music, and gym teachers have also been working to prepare activities for your children! : )

Hambright Leaders – Keep leaving your MARK!

This year, Hambright leaders learned about and began leaving their MARK each day!  Though we have gone to online learning, the year is not over yet. Leaders, we want you to continue to Make good choicesAct kindlyRespect yourself and others, and Keep being your best.

Parents/Guardians:  We want to know when your sons and daughters are leaving their MARK at home.  Let us know by emailing your student’s homeroom teacher.  Please include the student’s name, grade level, date, and a description of how he/she was seen leaving a MARK at home.  Here is an example:

Eric Howe

Grade 4

4/13/2020

Eric helped his younger sister complete an assignment for school without being asked.

Students who earn Virtual Leader Tickets by leaving a MARK at home will get a shoutout on the Hambright blog.

Looking ahead this week…

Hope everyone had a great weekend. We sure do miss our first graders in our classroom! Can’t wait to see you during our Meet later today. We are ready to continue our school year and move forward with our online learning for our school year.

Reminder that as we move into the next phase of learning, starting the week of the 13th, the activities are no longer optional.  We will be asking all families to send pictures of student work or the documents of students work through email OR personal message on Class Tag as we will be providing feedback and keeping track of student work.

Beginning the week of the 20th, we will be moving forward with our next phase of learning, which is NEW curriculum.  It will be important students are completing the learning activities provided as we cover new curriculum for your child.  Again, work will no longer be optional and we will be checking in with all students work.

Please know that I am working from home during the school day hours so feel free to reach out to me if needed.  All teachers have specific office hours for an hour each day.  The specific hour will be a time to reach out to me directly and I can even call you or Google Meet groups to help with any assignments or questions during that time.

My office hours this week:

Monday: 2:00-3:00 pm Tuesdays: 2:00-3:00 pm Wednesdays: 2:00-3:00 pm

Thursday: 10:00-11:00 am Friday: 10:00-11:00 am

Continuity of Education Plan for Penn Manor

Hello Penn Manor community,

Penn Manor School District has introduced a comprehensive Continuity of Education plan, which is available for viewing here on the district’s remote learning website.

The plan explains in detail how teachers will provide learning activities for all students to access by grade level or subject area.  The current level of activities will continue through April 9, and the school district will begin transitioning to more robust learning activities the week of April 13.

Beginning April 20, all teachers will move from reinforcement and review of material previously taught to the introduction of new material.

Teachers will keep track of student participation and reach out to encourage all students to participate.  Learning activities will not be graded, but student participation is expected.

Given the current unprecedented circumstances, Penn Manor has tried to be intentional about transitioning to online learning and its impact on our students, families, and staff.  We want to be mindful of the stressors brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased demands on parents working from home.

Throughout this process, we will continue to evaluate our Continuity of Education plan and make adjustments, as needed.

Thank you for your support in these challenging times, and please stay safe!

Online Learning Activities Posted

Penn Manor educators have developed continuity of education plans to help students continue learning from home while our schools are closed.

Here is a link to the resources.

These are optional, ungraded learning activities that students can complete from home. The resources have been developed to meet a variety of students’ needs and may not be the same across our school district.

Teachers will be accessible to students and parents and will respond to any questions about the learning activities in a timely manner. Please contact me with any questions.
