I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Below you will find information about the week ahead:
Reading: Our class is working through many different skills in our spy unit. Last week we focused on main idea, summarizing, and making a claim. This week we will conclude the unit by reading several different articles and looking at bias in writing. Students will also listen to a spy podcast and identify important elements of the discussion. Everyone will take a unit test towards the end of the week on unit 3.
Writing: Last week we worked on subject and verb agreement during our grammar lessons. This week will be amazing as the students will be creating figurative language posters. Since we are in the midst of a spy unit in reading, all students selected another student in class to observe. Everyone will be creating a poster using learned figurative language concepts. Included on the poster will be similes, metaphors, and hyperboles along with descriptive adjectives and colorful art designs.
Spelling: Our class will move onto lesson 15. This is a review list. Students will take a pretest on Monday and a posttest on Friday. All students will work on completing some of the spelling packet in class. We will also play a review game on Thursday. It is beneficial for everyone to study his/her words for five to ten minutes each night of the week.
Science: Students just finished their web pages on Sir Isaac Newton and the laws of motion. Please remember the F.O.R. project is due on January 18th! The requirements for the project can be found in the Science Google Classroom.
Math: All sixth grade students took a math benchmark assessment last week. Students are learning about the different math properties including the commutative, associative, distributive, and identity property in the current unit.
