First Day of Chorus was a HUGE Success!

Thank you parents, friends and family for taking the time to bring your child to school early this morning for chorus rehearsal!  We had a wonderful and highly successful rehearsal. The students jumped right into our winter concert repertoire and we also practiced some “part independence” by singing a 3 part cannon!  I am so proud of these kids and excited to see all that we can accomplish this year!

Check out the cannon here.

Students are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances as part of their responsibility to the group.  Every member of our chorus plays a key role in making our performance a success!

I am so excited to start rehearsing tomorrow! See you at 8am!

Partner Songs and Cannons!

What an exciting start to the school year it has been! We have been exploring the world of cannons and partner songs all while having fun along the way.

After learning the song, students worked in small groups to master both the singing of the melody and the playing of the instrumental accompaniment that went with the songs.

Check out these awesome students showing off their musical talents!

New Year, New Traditions!

Seven years ago when I graduated with my degree in Music Education my little sister gave me this sweater and told me that “Every good teacher needs a tacky teacher sweater.”

I have worked hard to live up to the ‘good teacher’ reputation to go along with a now growing collection of interesting sweaters. Today, on this first picture day at my new school, I started a new tradition with my 6th graders- “Mrs. Brubaker’s Ugly Sweater Selfie”.

Happy Friday, Friends!

Slight Change in the Lesson Schedule!

Good Evening!

I hope you had a great day! I just wanted to touch base with all of you in regards to a  slight change to the lesson schedule. We have over 70 students who are taking instrumental lessons here at Hambright, which is so exciting! However, due the large amount of students who are taking instrumental lessons here at Hambright Sue Hamer, the elementary music teacher at Pequea Elementary, will be joining us here at Hambright to teach some instrumental lessons during the afternoon of cycle day D1.  This will allow for both Mrs. Hamer and myself to meet with the instrumental lesson students in smaller groups- providing better quality lessons to cater to the individual needs of each student.  Mrs. Hamer will teaching the 4th, 5th and 6th grade violins and the 5th grade flutes.
Below is the updated lesson schedule which also includes the students Mrs. Hamer will be pulling for lessons. The students affected by these changes have been informed of the change and already have updated lesson information. These students will have a lesson with Mrs. Hamer tomorrow since it will be cycle day D1.  With that being said, it is always helpful to have your support as we implement these changes.  Please remind your student to come to their assigned lesson time with their instrument and their book (stands are not necessary for the lessons here at school).
I understand that an eight day lesson schedule can be tricky to follow, because of this I have created a Google Calendar with the Instrumental lesson schedule. If you would like to be added to the Instrumental Lesson Google Calendar, please subscribe here: https://goo.gl/forms/xpARrdfdRmPE06ql2
Have an awesome night!

Hello!

Hello Hambright Family and Friends!

My name is Ashley Brubaker, I am the new music teacher here at Hambright Elementary. I am so very excited to be joining an amazing team of teachers here at Hambright and thrilled to have this opportunity to work with such bright students! This year I hope to not only educate your students, but open their eyes to the vast world of music and its many aspects! During this year I will be covering the following over arching topics:

  • Pitch Matching: the ability to sing and match sounds correctly
  • Steady Beat: the constant pulse of a song or rhyme (like a heart beat)
  • Simple Rhythms: using rhymes and songs
  • Simple Songs: all falling within the students’ voice range
  • Loud and Soft: as applied to music
  • Fast and Slow: as applied to music
  • High and Low: with pitches ranging from major 3rds to perfect 8ths

While teaching these concepts, I will introduce your child to other ways of expressing their ideas with art, movement and imagination. My overall goal is to give your child a quality music educational experience that will help to give them the tools they need to thrive in the fast paced, creativity driven world that we live in.

Thank you so much for supporting your student and their love of learning this school year! I am excited to meet the Hambright community this school year.
