Week of April 18th…..

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break.  This morning, the children came in ready to work!  Keep it up 5th Graders, you ROCK!!!  Here’s what we will be up to this week……….

Curriculum News:

Math: In math this week we will continue reviewing units from earlier in the year. On Tuesday we will review unit 8, which is our fraction and decimal number sense unit. On Wednesday the class will review unit 9, adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Thursday we will review unit 10, focusing on strategies for multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Friday will be dedicated to review stations for units 8-10. Keep up the hard work and do your best to get that review homework completed each night!

Reading:  Today we did our second close reading of our fantasy narrative from our anthology.  This enabled each student to work through the comprehension activity independently and proficiently. After the children finished their comprehension activity, they began to cut out and set up their robust vocabulary cards so they could begin their independent study. Tomorrow they will continue to do their independent study and then move into the buddy study of the vocabulary words in order to complete the vocabulary activity successfully on their own. We will also review different types of figuartive language and do our focus skill activity.  On Thursday, the students will finish up any of the activiities that they need to and begin reading, analyzing and discussing one of our group books.  We will finish up on Friday working with our Time for Kids magazine.
Spelling:  Your child received her/his spelling packet today, and since it is Tuesday, it won’t be due until Friday.  The spelling test will also be on Friday.
Reminders:
Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, (the 24th, 25th, and 26th,)your child will be taking the Math PSSA in the morning.
Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Eby 🙂
