Week of September 21st…

Hello, 5th Grade Martic Families,

I hope that you all had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather! Over the past couple of weeks, we have been S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G and STRENGTHENING our brains! Keep reading to find out how we have been achieving this.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  We have been working hard over the last couple of weeks!   We started by doing some activities to review figurative language/figures of speech.  We’ve also been determining the meaning of vocabulary words by using context clues and our prior knowledge.  We will be moving into identifying the elements of a fictional text. Keep up the good work, readers, and writers, and staying in a growth mindset!

Math: We are in the middle of our place value unit. The children just took their first place value quiz and are working on their place value project. The fifth graders have worked very hard learning how to read and write decimals and whole numbers in expanded, word, and standard form!

Spelling: This will be our second week of completing a spelling unit online. Group B children should be completing their spelling activities on Monday, and Group A children should being doing this on Thursday. We are not giving spelling tests this year.

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
