Week of April 26th…

Hello, Martic 5th Grade Families,

I hope that this post finds you and yours all doing well! Here are a few sneak peeks on how we will be stretching and strengthening our brains this week!

Curriculum News:

Reading: Today, readers and writers began discussing and filling in their Venn diagram.  This Venn diagram compares/contrasts the book to the movie, The Thief Lord.  They will continue and complete this activity tomorrow.  Wednesday and Thursday,  readers and writers will be busy reviewing homophone families. Friday, we will wrap up the week by reading, analyzing, and discussing a couple of NEWSELA articles.  To show their comprehension, of these passages, they will answer questions that follow each piece.

Spelling: Your child received their spelling list and homework packet today. She/he is aware that the packet is due Thursday morning and that their test will be on Friday.

Mathematicians are working hard converting both customary and metric units of measurement! We will finish unit 11 this week and have our math test on Monday, May 3rd. Your child will bring home a study guide on Thursday night to practice before their test. Keep up the great work!

Reminders:

Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, (5/4th, 5/5th, and 5/6th) your child will be taking the ELA PSSA in the morning. They have worked very hard this year and have grown incredibly as readers and writers! They are ready to show the “the words” who “the boss” is! I am VERY PROUD of each and every one of them for their strong work ethic!!!

Thank you for your continuous support and have a wonderful week!
