Monday, November 14th- Tuesday, November 22nd…….

Hello 5th Grade Families,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!   Since we will only be together on Monday and Tuesday, next week, this post includes November 21st and 22nd.  I will not be posting next Monday.  Here’s what’s coming down the pike.

Reading:  Today we did our first close reading of lesson nine’s narrative nonfiction.  As we did this, we discussed and unpacked our thinking along the way to ensure comprehension.  Tomorrow, we will do our second close reading of this passage in order to prepare us for success on the independent comprehension activity. As the week continues, we will work through activities to review our new robust vocabulary and our focus skill of text structure/sequential order.  We will wrap up our week  with reading to gain information from our Time for Kids magazine. Next Monday, we will begin lesson ten.

Spelling:  Today your child took their pretest and we’re given their homework packet that they know is due Thursday Morning.  Their test will be on Friday.  Next week, since our week is only two days, we won’t have new words or a spelling homework packet.

Math: This week in math we will continue complete our work on unit 5. The students will review all the skills on Monday, and be tested Tuesday. There will be a study guide that goes home for Monday night’s homework. After we complete the unit 5 test, we will begin unit 6 on Wednesday, which is multiplying and dividing decimals. We will begin unit 6 by estimating products of decimals, then the goal will be to learn how to multiply up to a 3 digit by 2 digit decimal and/or whole number by Friday. Keep up the hard work on your math homework and remember that I am checking each day to see if you needed help on it.

Reminders:  Wednesday, November 23rd – Monday, November 28th….. School is not in session.

I hope you all have a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24th!!!

Take Care,

Mrs. Eby 🙂
