Week of April 30th…

Hi Everybody,

Wow… It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is May 1st already!  Where is this year going?  Keep reading to find out how we’ll be stretching our brains and making them stronger this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading: When I introduced the focus skill of imagery, last week, the children were very intrigued by it.  Thus, I found some other activities that we were engaged with involving the use of imagery in reading and writing. Everyone really enjoyed doing them and did an excellent job!  Today, we did our lesson twenty-three vocabulary introduction activities.  Throughout the remainder of the week, we will do our first and second close readings of the realistic fiction piece.  Plus, we will work through our comprehension, vocabulary, and focus skill independent activities.

Spelling:  Your child received this week’s spelling homework packet today.  He/she knows that it is due on Thursday, and our test is on Friday. Please continue to help your child prepare for his/her spelling test every Friday.  Thanks!

Math: This week in math we will continue our review of graphing skills, working on creating and interpreting bar graphs, line graphs, and pictographs. On Thursday, we are going to learn fraction and decimal equivalence for 1/2s, 1/4s, 1/5s, and 1/10s. On Friday we will keep working on fraction and decimal equivalence, but for 1/3s, 1/8s, and 1/12s.This will be the last week of fifth-grade math review, and next week we will move on to previewing 6th-grade concepts. Keep up the hard work in math this marking period fifth grade!

Reminders:

This Friday, May 4th, is Olympic Day in the morning.

Have a wonderful week and thank you for your continuous support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
