Week of December 3rd…

Hi, Martic 5th Grade Families,

Happy December… I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! Keep reading to find out what’s coming down the pick this week that will stretch our brain and make it stronger!

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we were introduced to a set of new robust vocabulary words and used our prior knowledge as well as context clues to determine their meanings.  Tomorrow, we will begin reading our next expository nonfiction passage.  As we read this text, we will determine which text features help the reader better understand the passage and identify the main idea. Thursday, we will finish our expository nonfiction piece and move into a comprehension activity that goes along with it. If time permits, we will end the week by discussing the qualities of a good summary.

Spelling: Your child received his/her spelling homework packet today. She/he is aware that it’s due Friday morning this week. Our test will also be on Friday.

Math: This week in math we will start off Tuesday with dividing decimals by powers of 10. We will focus on moving the decimals to the left based on how many zeros are in the power of 10. On Wednesday we will review all the multiplication and division skills we have covered so far with review stations. Thursday is the test on unit 6, so make sure to complete those study guides Wednesday for homework. Friday we will begin our 7th unit, which is focused on expressions and patterns. Keep up the hard work in math 5th grade!

Reminders:

Kids’ Heart Challenge will be held during physical education tomorrow.

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your support!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
