Job Shadowing Panel

The Lancaster Workforce Investment Board is sponsoring FOUR Career Shadowing opportunities for Lancaster County Students. 

Why a panel?

  • These panels include those occupations that are difficult to shadow due to safety or confidentiality concerns.
  • The job shadowing panels include a group of industry professionals that will share their experiences and answer questions about their occupations.

When?

All panels run from 9-11 AM

The Human Services panel will meet on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in room 3 at Liberty Place; 313 W Liberty Street, Lancaster, PA 17603

The Police/Firefighter/EMT panel will meet on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Lancaster County Public Safety Center; 101 Champ Blvd, Manheim, PA 17545

The Construction panel will meet on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Association of Builders and Contractors; Rapho Business Park 135 T-801 Shellyland Rd. Manheim PA 17545 exit 772 off of 283

  • After the panel students will observe apprenticeship classes

The Industrial/Production/Logistics panel will meet on will be held in room 101 at 1020 New Holland Ave on Friday, March 10, 2017.

What do you need to do to register?

See Mrs. Ostrowski in the counseling office if you plan to attend one of the above sessions.  She will submit your name so you are registered.  You will need to arrange your own transportation and you will need to submit an excuse from your parent/guardian upon your return to school.

Medical Assistant Career Exploration

The Consolidated School of Business is now offering a Medical Assistant Career Exploration at no cost to you. Students eligible for this program include any high school sophomore, junior, or senior who might be interested in the medical field. You will learn the basics required to work as a Medical Assistant.

This program will cover:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Taking Vitals
  • First Aid
  • Urinalysis Study

There are limited seats available. Stop by the school counseling office for paperwork to reserve a seat by March 3, 2017.

2017 Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences

Current juniors have an exciting summer experience they can attend! The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences is a month long intensive science experience that immerses students in classes and research. Students will be paired with a research mentor and partnered with their peers on an intensive research experience. Students will hone their content knowledge along with enhancing their critical thinking, communication, problem solving, and collaboration skills.

The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences is held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh on July 2, 2017 through August 5, 2017. The application deadline has been extended to February 15, 2017.

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise

Are you a junior? Are you in business class? Are you considering some kind of career in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, or banking? If you answered yes, then the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise is for you.

This event will allow you to experience a college campus over your summer break AND if you attend, you will receive a scholarship to Penn Tech or Lycoming College. The final deadline to apply is April 7th. This is a significant experience to talk about in your college applications. Come into the school counseling office to pick up more paperwork on the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise.

Gettysburg College STEM Scholars Program

Gettysburg College STEM Scholars Program has an exciting scholarship opportunity. With help from a generous grant from the National Science Foundation, they are offering a STEM scholarship program for students interested in STEM fields such as Biology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. There will be a STEM Scholars Information Session held during their Senior Open House on January 30.

STEM Scholars will have their full demonstrated financial need met for all four years with no loans, and have the opportunity to:

  • Attend a STEM-focused pre-orientation workshop with other STEM Scholars.
  • Enroll in an exclusive First-Year Seminar taught by STEM faculty.
  • Participate in bi-monthly luncheons with STEM faculty and a variety of learning activities on and off campus.
  • Take advantage of various STEM offerings, including faculty-student research, peer-mentoring, preferential residence in Gettysburg College’s Science House, and internship opportunities with industrial partners.

The deadline for Regular Decision admission (using the Common Application) is January 15, and students should file both the CSS Financial Aid Profile and FAFSA by January 15.

United States Naval Academy Alumni Association

The Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the United States Naval Academy Alumni Association invites students, parents, and faculty to the 2017 Service Academy Information Night.
