What: Representatives from a variety of local businesses, industries, and colleges will provide information about their short-term training and educational opportunities available to students after graduating high school. HACC, CTC, Thaddeus Stevens, and the National Guard are among the participants who plan to attend. This is a great way to learn about your options and introduce yourself to representatives!

What: Are you interested in entering the workforce after graduating high school? If so, attend our upcoming Career and Employment Fair! Representatives from local businesses and industries will provide information about their summer, part-time, and full-time employment opportunities. High Industries, Tomlinson Bomberger, and Abel Construction are among the companies that plan to attend!

Dual Enrollment Open House at HACC’s Lancaster Campus

Interested in Dual Enrollment options? HACC’s Lancaster campus is offering a Dual Enrollment orientation on April 17th from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. This is a great way for students and parents to learn more about the educational opportunities available at HACC for Dual Enrollment, as well as meet HACC admissions counselors. Stop down in the counseling office to pick up a flier.

Summer Program Opportunity through the Wildlife Leadership Academy!

Are you interested in becoming a wildlife biologist, fisheries manager, wildlife conservation officer, wildlife veterinarian, botanist, outdoor writer, or habitat manager? Would you want to work for organizations such as the Department of Environmental Protection, PA Game Commission, PA Fish and Boat Commission, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Quality Deer Management Association, Trout Unlimited, or Ruffed Grouse Society? If so, consider attending a 5-day residential summer field school program through the Wildlife Leadership Academy! Scholarships are available to help pay for the program, and you should email your school counselor if you are interested.

Extended Deadline to Turn in HACC Experience Day Permission Slips!

Are you a rising junior or senior, been admitted to HACC for fall 2019, an undecided senior, or interested in dual enrollment? If so, make sure to stop down in the high school counseling office to pick up a permission slip for HACC Experience Day, which will take place on Friday, April 12 from 9am-1pm. Completed permission slips can be turned in up until Tuesday, March 26th in the counseling office. This is a great way to explore the programs HACC has to offer, as well as learn about dual enrollment opportunities. Lunch will be provided, and attending this event can be used as the experiential component of your graduation project!

HACC: Manufacturing Training Program

Are you a senior and unsure of your next steps?

Are you interested in obtaining a job with high skill and high wages? 

Did you know the average starting wage in manufacturing in Lancaster County is $13-$18 an hour?

With generous support from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, HACC’s Workforce Development Division is offering a free manufacturing training program to 20 graduating seniors in summer 2019. 

In six weeks, you will:

  •  Learn work readiness skills to get you a job-ready
  • Network with guest speakers from the Lancaster county manufacturing community
  • Obtain industry recognized credentials in OSHA safety and CPR/First Aid
  • Obtain a National Career Readiness Certificate
  • Be connected for prioritized interviews with local manufacturers

Classes will run Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM from June 17-July 12, 2019 at the HACC Lancaster campus.  Lunch is provided to all participants.

This program is limited to the first 20 applicants.

Eligible applicants should be on track to graduate, have reliable transportation to the HACC Lancaster Campus, and be 18 years old by June 17, 2019. 

  • Please email your school counselor before April 1st if you are interested in applying for this Manufacturing Training Program at HACC.  Applications will be located in the school counseling office.  *APPLICATIONS must be brought to the school counseling office before APRIL 3RD. 

Penn State PULSE Program

Applications for the PULSE Program at Penn State College of Medicine are open!

PULSE is a semester-long academic course for high schoolers passionate about the biomedical sciences taught at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The program aims to cultivate an interest in medicine, biomedical science, and healthcare systems science. Students can expect to learn like medical students through small, problem-based learning sessions, large group lectures, mentoring sessions, a tour of our research facilities, and an optional session in our human cadaver laboratory.

Interested students must submit an online application, a letter of recommendation, and an official transcript. The application and further instructions can be found on the Penn State University website at sites.psu.edu/hmcpulse.

This is a great learning experience and unique opportunity to collaborate with practicing physicians, medical students, and other high school students.
