Back-to-School Virtual College Fair: On Aug. 25, 2016,  from 2 p.m.–10 p.m., NSHSSS and College Week Live will host a back-to-school virtual college fair. Students can live chat with admissions representatives and students from more than 100 colleges. Learn more.

Conestoga Valley College Fair and Pathways to Gold Collar Careers:  November 7th CVHS

Penn Manor’s Education Day College Fair will be Monday, November 7th in the Central Complex. Details will be announced at the start of the school year.

PACAC College Fair
The Pennsylvania Association of College and Admissions Counselors (PACAC) has announced their 2016-2017 College Fair Schedule.  Below are the locations that may be convenient for Penn Manor Students to attend:

  • Hershey Area Regional College Fair September 6th, 7pm-9pm
  • York County Regional College Fair October 17th, 6pm-8pm
  • Lancaster County Regional College Fair March 16th, 8:30am-11:00am hosted at Millersville University

Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, U Penn, and Stanford
Thursday, September 15th 2016 at Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel 7:00pm. Representatives from the above five universities will conduct brief slide presentations about their institution and answer your questions about the sometimes-mystifying world of college admissions. Virtual College Fairs
College Week Live provides Virtual College Fairs for special tops and reginonal schools.  September 7th 4:00pm-12:ooam will be the Prinston Review Virtual College Fair. Why attend a Virtual College Fair? Virtual college fairs give students an opportunity to connect with colleges from around the world that they might not be able to visit at a traditional college fair. Colleges track how interested students are in attending their college through the virtual and in-person contact students make with the college. Attending a virtual college fair can help a students application to an out-of-state competitive college if they connect with the school they are applying to.

Christian College Fair

The Growing Project-Summer Volunteers needed

The Growing Projects is a program of Hunger-Free Lancaster County (hungerfreelancaster.org) as a way to infuse more healthy produce into the charitable food network and give volunteers of all ages a chance to help. The Growing Project is dedicated to growing fresh vegetables to help feed hungry people in Lancaster County. This first year, 2 acres will be cultivated for sweet corn, squash, pumpkins, beans, and more.

Volunteers will be needed throughout the planting, growing, and harvest process to make this venture successful so there will be abundant opportunity for others to get involved. To get involved and for more information contact Mike Youse at the the Lutheran Camping Corporation of Central PA at 717-677-8211.

Volunteers are needed from May 21th and throughout the planting, growing, and harvest season. Volunteers must be over the age of 10 and are invited to bring garden tools.

Hunger-Free Lancaster County is chaired by former state Sen. Mike Brubaker and a partnership with business, faith-based nonprofit, and public sector organization working together to ensure sustainable access to three healthy meals a day for all Lancaster residents by 2018.

Summer Communications and Media Career Camp

Misercordia University is offering a summer Career Exploration Camp for high school students from June 26th-29th in the field of Communications and Media. During this four day and three night program students will do all of the tasks required to create a television magazine show and a newspaper–print and online. Summer Science Camp Volunteers needed

Do you enjoy working with children?  If so, the Lancaster Science Factory is looking for Camp Volunteers for this summer to assist with sessions with their STEM Summer Camps. This is a great opportunity for students to have fun while earning building their resume and gaining experience. Volunteers will be responsible for assisting campers with their projects, helping with attendance, assisting instructors with set-up, inventory, and clean-up and monitoring campers during class/break time. STEM camps start the week of June 13th and ends Aug 19. Each camp week will involve a different instructor, topic and group of campers.  Volunteers would ideally sign up for assisting for an entire week or more.

Prospective volunteers will need to go  an interview process and participate in a group orientation prior to the start of the program.   

 Volunteers 18 and over must have an updated Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Clearance prior to the start of volunteering. Volunteers who have lived outside of PA in the past 10 years must also complete a FBI clearance.

Please consider attending Lancaster’s mental well-being event where community members will gather together and showcase services, providers and resources that are available to the community to help promote well being.  This event is open to the public and is at no cost. The event will consist of discussions revolving  Community Member’s experiences in recovery, the Compeer friendship program, Mental Health America’s Wellness Academy, assistance available in your workplace for stress and transforming difficult conversations with family and friends, financial assistance programs and navigating the healthcare system.

Heroin- A Community Conversation to be held in Millersville

Drug overdose deaths in the county have more than tripled in the last four years, in large
part due to the heroin scourge which plagues every local community. Last year, more than
2500 Pennsylvanians died of drug overdose.
The Lancaster County Anti-Heroin Task Force is working to combat the heroin epidemic in
our community. We invite you to come join our kick-off event on:

The mission of the Task Force and Community Forums is to:
– Reduce heroin-related deaths
– Promote education on addictions devastating impact

PACAC College Fair

Attention Juniors,

The Counseling Department will be hosting a trip to the PACAC’s College Fair at Millersville University on March 10th.  The fair will be hosting schools from across the country and is a great opportunity for students to make personal connections with future schools.

Field Trip Request Forms will be located in the Counseling Department.  These must be turned in by March 1st!

This trip is at no cost to students and parents are strongly encouraged to come  at their convenience to help their children along with the process.

National Day of Service, Monday Jan 18th

Monday is MLK National Day of Service. Dr. Martin King, Jr. once said “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve.” Dr. King further challenged our nation to service of our fellow man by asking, “What are you doing for others?”. The universal messages of justice, democracy, hope, love, and selflessness that he preached continue to inspire and move people today. As his legacy lives on, we encourage you to answer Dr. King’s call to service by participating in the “2016 MLK Day of Service.”

On Wednesday January 20th from 6pm-7pm an Elementary Financial Aid Night will be held in the Hambright Elementary Library.  See the attached flyer for more information.

Encourage families with children in elementary and middle school to attend this information session to find out about helpful tools and resources available for free to families.
